News: Busta To 'Bang' Out Bet Awards Snippet
Appearing at the announcement of the 2006 BET Award nominees on Tuesday, Busta Rhymes told reporters that his new album, "The Big Bang," will feature a snippet from BET's 2004 telecast. But he remained tight-lipped on any further details.
"You'll just have to listen to the record when it comes out," he said yesterday, according to Billboard.
Due June 13 via Aftermath/Interscope, the album features appearances by Stevie Wonder, the Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am and Kelis, as well as late funk legend Rick James. Busta's soundbyte from the 2004 telecast might possibly come from James, who made one of his final public appearances during the ceremony that year, and shouted the line made famous by Dave Chappelle: "I'm Rick James, b*tch!"
Meanwhile, Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has earned an all-time best five BET Award nominations, not four as previously reported. His nods include Best Male R&B Artist, two Best Duet/collaborations (one with Kanye West, the other with Ludacris), Best Actor and Video of the Year (with Kanye West).
Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott, along with R&B diva Mary J. Blige, earned four nods each. Other artists receiving multiple nominations included West, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown, each with three; and Anthony Hamilton, Ludacris, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Lloyd Banks, Mariah Carey, Mary Mary, Papoose, Rah Digga, Slim Thug and T.I., each with two.
Comedian Damon Wayans will host the ceremony, which will air live at 8 p.m. on June 27 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Blige, T.I., Carey and West are scheduled to perform.
Chaka Khan will receive the BET Lifetime Achievement Award, and Harry Belafonte will be honored with the BET Humanitarian Award.
