News: DMX Granted Court Date Extension
Rapper DMX was granted a one-week extension Wednesday in his court case stemming from a June 2 arrest in White Plains, NY for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
The artist, born Earl Simmons, was due in court on Friday but was unable to attend due to a "prior engagement," his attorney said. During a court appearance Wednesday, Judge Joanne Friia granted DMX's prior request for an extension. His rescheduled court date is now June 21.
Police said they pulled over DMX after he cut off another motorist and was speeding in his 2001 Chevy Suburban. He told authorities he was in a "big hurry." The rapper was also charged with seat belt and unsafe lane change violations.
At the time of his arrest, police say DMX's New York license has been suspended since April because he skipped a court date in Queens for unrelated charges.
The Yonkers MC is also due in court in Harrison, New York on July 21 after being ticketed for driving on the shoulder of the road, which resulted in a minor collision with another vehicle, just nine days after the White Plains incident.
