News: 'Flavor Of Love' Spinoff Gets Green Light
VH1 couldn't resist green-lighting a spinoff to its No. 1 reality series, "Flavor of Love."
A train wreck featuring women of questionable class competing for the arm of former Public Enemy jester Flavor Flav, the series will soon be complimented by 10 episodes of a sister series that features various men attempting to win the heart of a "Flavor of Love" contestant from season one.
Although auditions were held over the summer under the name "Flavorette," the series from executive producers Cris Abrego and Mark Cronin has yet to don an official title. The show, however, is due to air next year, likely in "Flavor's" current Sunday night timeslot. Producers said they've cast a mix of colorful men to stir up as much drama as possible in the house.
"We're able to cast guys you wouldn't normally see." Abrego said. "We've got investment bankers, lawyers, rappers, unemployed guys living at home ...The best part is each one believes they have amazing game."
As far as the possibility for a third go-round with Flav, Cronin acknowledged that trying to find the rap star love again might be overkill, and another season might be out of the question. "We are developing new show ideas with him," Abrego said. "We think it's time for him to do something new. He's funny and a likeable character."
Flav, meanwhile, is preparing to release his first solo album via his own label Draytown Records.
"I got some things off my chest, but not all," Flav said in a statement to SOHH.com. "I doubt I will ever do another one, though. What I'm gonna do is make this one a collector's item. My first and only solo album, ever."
Led by the first single "Flavor Man," the self-titled solo debut is due in stores this Halloween.
