News: Game, Ludacris, Lil' Scrappy, Hot Rod And Others
On September 28 the Game made an appearance on Power 105.1's morning show, hosted by longtime radio personality Egypt and Donnell Rawlins of "The Chappelle Show."
We know the Game as someone who constantly scowling in his videos and on television appearances but the point is to see that he can delve deeper and try to understand why he may have that visag. On the appearance the Game, born Jayceon Taylor, was candid when talking about growing up in a foster child system, possibly witnessing his father molest his sister and having a sister as a prostitute.
It is a little startling to hear such things from the person himself. He's been dubbed a ticking time bomb, but to make it this far after enduring all of the aforementioned speaks volumes. "Hate It Or Love It," the Game is an authentic person. Of course you may not agree with his decisions, you may even dub him as flip-flopping on certain subjects, but you can clearly see that this man has been through a lot and it translates into his music. Aside from Jay-Z, Nas and just announced Jeezy in December, there isn't a bigger artist dropping fourth quarter this year than the Game.
Who knows how's it going to be with Ludacris's new album but after all he woun't be able to blame promotion after it appears. Will it do numbers he expects? The clips of the Mouf of the South can be seen everywhere.
And more about Ludacris: he dropped his serious "War With God" track. T.I. and Young Jeezy were the main names that fans on the Internet claimed the song was made for. Luda has a song on his new album called, "Grew Up A Screw Up" featuring Jeezy.
Also Lil' Scrappy is one of the most entertaining figures in hip-hop. If suing the Orlando Police for $250 million for a back ache wasn't enough, dude told MTV on a taping of "Sucker Free" yesterday that he lost all his teeth in a fight and had to pay $45,000 for new ones. He said all this while flashing his newly-acquired pearly whites, alongside Young Buck. Buck is a superstar and there has been talks of him close to landing his own imprint. If that happens, it will be very interesting to see if he can cultivate his own talent. If not he can always yell, "Buck The World!" Buck Marley! ...
To continue with I can't but mention Janet Jackson Looking at her on a magazine cover you one perhaps thinks ‘forty-years-old and looking like THAT'! That's just So-So Delicious (Lucky Jermaine). Just recently she made covers of Vibe, Stuff, Essence and now King and that's not all.
A little story from the fairy-tale: who says demo tapes are an outdated way of making it in the industry and getting signed to a big time label!? Sheeit, a simple demo tape worked for Hot Rod, G-Unit's new acquisition from Arizona. Hot Rod sent 50 Cent a demo tape, 'Fif digged what he heard, called Hot Rod and now dude has a single with Mary J. Blige.
On the flip side, the industry predominantly has hungry upcoming artists doing so much to get noticed. Labels today don't want to just sign artists. They want movements. Look at T.I. for example. He had DJ Drama and mixtapes on smash, Jason Geter and Grand Hustle behind him. That's what labels want.
One can't help but respect MCs that work their ass off to build that heavy buzz. Brooklyn's own Joell Ortiz is a perfect example. In addition to steadily satiating the streets' hunger with music, Ortiz regularly penned a journal for HipHopGame.com that kept him in the public eye. After grinding extremely hard, he gets signed to Interscope. The same applies to Papoose, who recently signed to Jive. And the same WILL apply to Queens MC H.D., who's all over the place right now doing promotion and making sure his music is available to the public. Most importantly that he is a straight MC.
