News: Jay-Z Hits London's Albert Hall
JAY-Z is continuing his ascent to rap royalty by scheduling a performance at London's posh Royal Albert Hall. Jay-Z is to bring hip-hop to London's Royal Albert Hall for the first time in its 135-year history, Sound Generator can reveal. Could any other rapper bring urban music to the great hall? The event followed Jay Z's landmark Fade to Black concert at New York's Madison Square Gardens, held in 2004.
The famous hitmaker performed in the historic venue on 27 September as part of his UK tour.
Besides Coldplay's Chris Martin looks set to appear on rapper Jay-Z's forthcoming album. Martin is said to have provided vocals for an as-yet-unnamed track.
And so several all-star collaborations went down during Jay-Z's concert at London's Royal Albert Hall last night, including one with Hov and Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow (she sang the chorus of "Song Cry" much to the amazement of many in the audience). "She was a bit nervous but her performance was really excellent," DJ G Money told the BBC. "People were like: 'Who is this chick that's in the spotlight?' Then Jay-Z said: 'I want people to wish a happy birthday to my good friend Gwyneth Paltrow'."
Paltrow's husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin also joined Jay-Z on stage to help perform a currently untitled song from Jay-Z's forthcoming Kingdom Come album and also lent his vocals to a performance of "Heart of the City (Ain't No Love)."
While Chris Martin's appearance was rumored ahead of the show, Paltrow's had not been anticipated at all.
Hip-Hop royalty Nas and Beyoncé also made onstage appearances during the course of the evening. Jay-Z was backed by a 25-piece orchestra and a DJ. The evening has already been marked as the historic first hip-hop event held at Royal Albert Hall.
