News: LL, 50 Cent In The Studio
The hottest couple to grace MTV's VMA red carpet this year seemed to be LL Cool J and 50 Cent, who used the high-profile occasion last Thursday to announce their new partnership in the form of a new LL album to be executive produced by the G-Unit general. "It gives me an opportunity to be with new minds," LL told MTV's John Norris of working with 50. He also recognized their common background as Queens, NY natives, stating 50 had his "best interest at heart" and brings "creativity" and "fresh energy" to the studio.
"I'm excited personally," 50 said, adding that he and LL recorded six songs in just three or four days.
During the interview, LL took stabs at his label Def Jam, which has released every one of his albums since he stomped into the game as a teen in 1984. Uncle L said the company's music "gotta be a lot better" and the label's "new staff," particularly the promotion department, runs things differently from the old regime.
The New York Daily News reported Friday that LL even took a swipe at Def Jam president Jay-Z during VMA red carpet interviews with other media outlets.
"I think Def Jam needs to be a better promoter of hip-hop," the rapper reportedly complained. "I think Jay-Z does a very good job ... of promoting Jay-Z."
