Several different remixes of "Gettin' Some" featuring new verses from a variety of MCs including Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Twista, Pimp C and Too Short, whose 1993 track "Blowjob Betty" was sampled for "Gettin' Some," have recently been circulated online and on mixtapes.
Shawnna's second single, "Damn," which features Smoke of Field Mob, is expected to hit radio by the beginning of June. Shawnna's first album Worth Tha Weight was released in 2004.
Lead single "Gettin' Some" is also a hidden track on the compilation "Ludacris Presents ... Disturbing Tha Peace" and is currently No. 6 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. A second single, "Damn" featuring Smoke of Field Mob, will impact radio early next month.
Shawnna told in March that several remixes of "Gettin' Some" were in the works, featuring Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Twista, UGK's Pimp C and Too Short. The song uses the chorus from the latter's 1993 cut "Bl**job Betty."
Shawnna, the daughter of legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy, released her debut album "Worth Tha Weight" in 2004. The disc peaked at No. 22 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 136,000 copies in the United States.
Being the daughter of a famous musician has its perks. There's no doubt about it. Shawnna, the child of legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy, grew up amongst the stars and was exposed to music at a very early age. Her parents strived to provide a better life for her though, one that didn't involve the ups and downs of the music industry. College, an ordinary career, and easy living could have been Shawnna's choice, but music was in her blood. Even though her dad was a blues player, Shawnna got sucked into the hip-hop culture during her high school days.
With her family backing her 100%, she is prepared to take her talents to a whole new level. She doesn't want to be the next Kim or Missy though. She just wants to be herself no matter what that leads to.
With a hot new single in "Gettin' Some" and a new album called Block Party on its way
