News: The Roots Return After Two Years With The Game Theory
After a two year break, innovative Philly collective The Roots are making a return with the release of their Def Jam debut, Game Theory.
The album will feature 14 new tracks that group drummer ?uestlove describes as "very mature, serious and very dark."
Although they've been away for a minute, The Roots have a lot of stuff to say, according to group lyricist Black Thought.
"There was too much going on that we couldn't just sit back and not speak on it," said the rapper.
Game Theory will address a wide variety of topics including their uneasiness about society on "It Don't Feel Right" (the album's first leaked track), to troops at war on "False Media" and government monitoring on "New World."
They also touch on their fallen comrade James Yancey aka J. Dilla whose death from kidney failure in February devastated the hip-hop world.
Tracks for the new album feature samples from the likes of Sly Stone, the Ohio Players and the Jackson 5, among others.
Game Theory is slated for release August 29 on Def Jam Records.
