Verizon Hosts African-American Celebration With Rapper Common
Hundreds of community activists, organization heads, politicians, celebrities and other influencers will celebrate the African-American legacy at Verizon's Realize the Experience gala event. This is the second year Verizon has sponsored a gala during the Congressional Black Caucus weekend. Entrepreneurs featured in Verizon's "realize" grassroots campaign, which includes people from the Washington, D.C., community, will attend the gala, one of the premier events on the District's social calendar. The gala brings together legislators, business leaders and heads of minority-focused organizations to promote collaboration and progress.

WHEN: Friday, Sept. 8 (8 p.m. to 4 a.m.)

WHERE: LOVE

1350 Okie St. NE

Washington, D.C., 20002

WHO: Special Guest: Live performance by rap artist Common

BACKGROUND: Verizon's Multicultural Marketing Group launched "realize," a grassroots marketing campaign in Washington and Philadelphia, featuring entrepreneurs who use Verizon broadband service to realize their dreams. The people in the campaign are from actual neighborhoods where the advertising appears, and have launched their businesses or strengthened their communities with the help of Verizon's broadband services. "Realize" is rooted in insights gained from market research indicating that African-Americans are most likely to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, even while holding full-time jobs.
